We usually associate canvas with art. You might have come across beautiful canvas paintings while on your visit to any museum. Canvas is actually a hard piece of cloth which is highly durable owing to its sturdiness. A canvas is stretched and attached to a frame before using it as a medium of painting.

With technology advancing rapidly, canvas has had many uses one of which is canvas printing. In this method, artworks or images are printed on a canvas and used as a piece of art. This method is highly preferred by everyone today, since canvas is hard and durable and you can be sure that your images or artwork will stay safe for years to come.

This method allows painters to easily transfer their paintings onto the canvas. Moreover highly advanced inkjet printers are capable of printing directly on the canvas. Canvas printing is not just about printing normally like other mediums. This method requires specialized skills, compatible inks and sprays.

However, the end results of the canvas prints largely depend on the quality of canvas, inks and even the frames used in the process. If you want your paintings to last forever you should make sure that the canvas is acid-free and as hard as denim. The inks used in the printing should be highly durable and should be resistant to time. After all you would not want your favorite image to fade out or turn yellow with time.

Canvas prints can be great gifts at birthdays or weddings. If your best friend is getting married you could gift him or her, your favorite photo that you clicked together. The only difference will be that it would be a canvas print. Often you might have come across your old worn photo albums, which were stacked up in a corner. Chances are that it might have been affected by moisture or humidity, resulting in sticky photographs. If your try to pull them out, the result will be ugly white patches on your photographs.

To save yourself from this nightmare, all you need to do is pick put your favorite photographs and get them printed on a canvas. It doesn’t matter even if you are the stay-at-home person. You can order your canvas prints online and have them delivered right at your doorstep!

“Fluxus means change, among other things. The Fluxus of 1992 is not the Fluxus of 1962 and if it pretends to be – then it is a fake. The real Fluxus moves out from its old center into many directions, and the paths are not easy to recognize without lining up new pieces, middle pieces and old pieces together.” – Dick Higgins
Fluxus is an art movement that began in the 1960s. It merged groups of artists from all over the world into one international community of artists, architects, composers, and designers who denied traditional forms of art and worked in noise music and visual art, avant-garde literature, architecture and even urban planning. They organized events and performances to present their work. George Maciunas is considered to be one of the founders of Fluxus. The word “fluxus” was taken from Latin and literally means “to flow.” Usually “Fluxus” is used to describe one of the most radical and experimental art movements of the postwar period.

Fluxus took principles from Dadaism and Pop Art, including the use of collage technique and the incorporation of the factor of chance. Fluxus ignored art theories and aesthetic objectives, and its mixed-media artworks can be created from any found materials. In Fluxus an artwork is not the result of creativity, but is instead involved with process, concept and idea. In other words Fluxus artists shifted the importance and emphasis from what an artist creates to the artist’s actions, opinions, and emotions. Famous German Fluxus artist Joseph Beuys stated that everybody can be an artist, because everything can be called an artwork.

In order to get a clearer understanding of Fluxus we will look at one of the classic pieces associated with the movement, “Piano Piece” by Nam June Paik, a composer, performer and video artist, presented in 1993. “Piano” involved getting a piano onto the stage and having attractively dressed artists nail keys into the sounding board with huge rusty studs. In the finale, by which time there were no un-nailed keys, the disfigured instrument was proclaimed a sculpture and offered for sale.

There are four factors that are typical of the majority of Fluxus works: Fluxus is an attitude; Fluxus is intermedia; Fluxus works are simple (art – small, texts – short, performances – brief); Fluxus is fun.

Fluxus had a burning aspiration to destroy the borders of the art world. It was a way of perceiving the world and society, a mode of social behavior and a life activity. Fluxus theorists insisted that art cannot exist beyond the game, and seriousness was pelted with stones, so to speak. The new movement claimed the role of catalyst, producing waves that affected art and the interpretation of life. It was successful, giving rise to events and performances as form of art, and showing that artwork can be a combination of different art techniques. In fact, without the Fluxus movement it is not obvious that video art would occupy the important place it now does in contemporary art.

Originally, when it first appeared, the art market despised Fluxus, but now it is appreciated as the forerunner of lots of contemporary art movements and given the respect it deserves for the influential role that it played.

Decorating a baby boy’s room involves lots of excitement. Especially if you’re expecting a baby, it’s one of the biggest joys associated with it. There are many ideas surrounding you, tons of design books and many ideas to consider. Since you’re a parent, chances are you’ve probably spent many hours fondly imagining what the room might look like. And once your son comes – well, he’ll be too young to appreciate the room right then, but he’ll love the bright colors. And, when he’s bigger, he’ll give you warm hugs for making him such a wonderful room. Here are some basic ideas to play around with, for your kid’s room decor.

To start off, you need to fix upon a theme. What kind of theme would you like? More importantly, what kind of theme do you think your son would like? With so many different kinds of themes available for a kid’s room decor, and you are spoilt for choice. Here’s an idea – you could go for a Nature theme. There would be a wall mural on one side of the room, depicting a forest scene – a few trees, animals and birds. You could have a bunk-bed, and here’s a good idea – buy artificial creepers, and have them wind up around the bed post. If you look around, there are artificial leaves available in the market too, if you think your son would like them.

Another theme you could try is the Comic Characters theme. All children, not just boys, appreciate cartoons – and you could have wall decals of different cartoon characters. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester and Tweety, Tom and Jerry – the list is endless. Do up the room with cartoon-themed stuffed toys as well – there are many attractive ones available in the market. Go for a cartoon scene-themed mural, you and your wife can pour through catalogue books that offer such a theme, and decide the nicest one.

Have a cartoon scene-themed mural, your wife and you can pour through catalogue books that offer such a theme, and decide the nicest one. You might try the Outer Space theme as well – for a kid’s room decor that’s unique yet stunning. Have a solar system hanging, dangling right above your baby’s crib – not only will this amuse him, but studies have shown that these colors and the movements help the baby’s cerebral development. Go for a Planets and Stars – themed wall mural.

Implementing the theme is the next task, keep specific things in mind. Involve an older child, listen to his/her suggestions regarding artistic interest and colors. Emphasize the room’s theme and the kid’s room decor, shop for fabric and wallpaper accordingly. Decide upon the focal point of the theme – perhaps the study-table, the bed or even a particular wall. Plan the room so that there’s space for book-cases, wardrobes, wall pictures and a bulletin board upon which your son can display his artwork, once he’s all grown up. And now it’s time to start decorating!

Have you ever really thought about doing this? The idea of it might be a bit awe inspiring at first, but if you don’t fly into a panic, of course, this is possible. Now, all you need is a subject for your mural.

Let’s move to your first step. It is very important that you do not have a greasy or dirty wall to work on. So get your rubber gloves on and wash down the wall.

This needs to be thoroughly dry before you can continue and, to make life easier, I would recommend that you put a primer on, or at least, a coat of paint.

Second step, so now you have prepared your wall. How do you go about it? On the assumption this is quite a large area, I would recommend that you use a grid. For this you will need to work this out on some paper in the first place. Get a sheet of A3 paper and make a grid, draw 2 inch square boxes on it. Once this is done you need to work your design on and over the grid. If you have followed me so far, now you need to transfer the grid to your wall.

You can do this by using a chalk that will show up on the wall and you should not encounter too many problems when you try to remove this later. So, if you take each 2 inch square from your sheet of paper as a 2 foot square on the wall, you should get the gist. If your area is small you could do 1 inch to 1 foot! Whichever you do, the amount of squares need to be exactly the same as the grid you have drawn.

It is quite easy to fall into the trap of making the grid too small and thus making it hard to remove the chalk when you want too. Please bear in mind what you want to put in the grid, as it will need to have generally strong lines.

All you are actually doing, is copying your design directly from your squared paper to the same squares on your wall. Think hard before you paint, because the paint you use, can play an important part in the success of this project. It can sometimes be expensive, but any well known brand of acrylic paint is to be recommended. This rather depends on how much you have to cover.

If you are of the opinion that this is going to work out to be too expensive, only use acrylics on the important parts and use a paint you would use for the house for the majority of your mural. However, make sure it is a good brush you use.

Do not paint blindly on, as you need to stand away from it from time to time, to get the full effect of what you are doing. You may have to select a paint that will stand up to the sun.

Anyway, you will not want the sun reflections coming off your work, so choose a paint with an eggshell finish or matt. You also could, when it is complete, brush on a clear varnish. Not only will this make it easier for you to keep it clean, but it will also act as a layer of protection.

Paint is created by combining dry pigment and liquid. In oil paints, the liquid used is linseed oil. You purchase oil paint in tubes. The paint is thick. So when you squeeze it out onto your palette, you mix it with your palette knife and use a stiff brush to apply it to your canvas. The thickness and composition of the paint means that it is very slow drying. Paintings done in oil typically take around 72 hours to dry.

The upside of the delayed drying time is that you can make adjustments to refine your painting. This can be done for up to twelve hours after you paint the canvas. You can make gradual shifts from one color to another. If you are using oil paints, you can also completely remove things from your canvas with your palette knife or a wet rag. Once the paint has dried completely, you can then put new colors on top of the original layer of paints. However, be aware that in order to avoid cracking, each subsequent layer must be thicker than the previous.

The drawback of using oil paints is that when you paint one color next to another on your canvas, they taint one another easily.
To begin an oil painting, you need to sketch your subject onto the canvas. You can use thinned paint or a piece of charcoal to accomplish this. However, if you use charcoal then it must be sprayed with fixative in order to isolate it from the colors. That is an advantage to using paint to sketch the subject is that you do not need fixative. Sometimes people transfer drawings onto the canvas. A drawing on thin tracing paper is taped onto the canvas. Carbon paper is then used to transfer the drawing. Trace over the drawing with the carbon paper positioned underneath it. A ballpoint pen will enable you to see where you have already traced. Once you are finished, fixative is necessary to isolate it from the paint.

Brushes are used to apply the paint to the canvas. The brush is the most vital tool an artist has. One of the markers of a talented artist is difficulty painting with poor quality brushes. You want a brush that maintains its shape even when loaded down with paint. At the conclusion of each stroke, the brush will return to its original shape. Brushes come in either sable or bristle, which is from pigs. Bristle brushes are appropriate for large areas on the canvas. Sable brushes are best for smaller areas and detail work. Brushes for oil paints come in flats, filberts, brights, or rounds. Flats are the most versatile brushes, used for a variety of strokes and blending. Filberts make a stronger edge. Brights allow your brush strokes to show. Rounds are for detail work.

Typically, you will paint with oils in layers. The first layer is the underpinning of the painting. Typically, these are just the values blocked out in paint–the lights, mediums, and darks of the painting. The second layer sketches out the drawing or vision of the painter. Subsequent layers add in details of the painting.

Start with a basic set of colors, which will allow you to blend to create whatever shade you would like. Essentially, you want to buy a white, a black, and then warm and cool shade of each color. Buy cheaper artist’s colors rather than student colors, as they are higher quality. Titanium white is a good choice for a white because it dries fast. If you buy a warm and cool version of each primary color, you will have an easier time mixing. Many experts also suggest that you buy a warm and cool green as well. You will quickly learn how to mix colors.

The best way to develop skill with oil painting is to practice. There are many oil painting exercises as well. Ultimately, you want to master basic forms, values within colors, distance, and texture.

Over time, your skill will grow and you will learn more nuanced painting techniques. Above all, you must have patience with yourself.

While decorating a kid’s room, there are certain things that you must keep in mind. Yes, there are just a few rules – which you can interpret the way you want and experiment with the way you like, but you must learn those rules first and break them according to your wishes. When it comes to decorating, there are do’s and don’ts to observe, so here are some tips to get that perfect room for your child.

Firstly, make a basic plan and sketch it out. Make a note of the room’s dimensions, window sizes, the location of electrical outlets – so on and so forth. These will be necessary while doing the actual decoration. Read magazines, browse through interior decorating websites and visit stores to find out what kind of room you’d like for your son or daughter. Involve children; listen to their artistic interests and styles – their opinion counts, as it’s their room. Listen to what they have to say about kid’s wall stickers, wall murals, wall decals and the kid’s room decor. The discovery of personal style is very important. You and your child need to fix upon a theme and decide upon the focal point of the room – that is, where the theme will be focused most – perhaps the bed, a particular wall or even the study-table. Decide a color scheme – pick out a primary color and a secondary color and coordinate the rest of the room with it. Remember, colors make a huge difference, and a pleasing color palette works wonders. Coordinate fabrics and flooring with the colors, and consult with professionals regarding paint colors. When going shopping for the furniture or draperies, keep the colors in mind and do the coordination.

Allow for natural pathways in a room – don’t cram the room up with furniture of all sorts – how will your child walk from the bed to the door? Arrange the furniture with care and planning. Consider the room’s uses and functions, before fixing upon arrangements and furnishings. Is the child’s room also going to be where he studies? Then you’ll need to make necessary arrangements for lighting. The kid’s room decor is of critical importance, so try to use the principle of repetition. Consider it this way – if you use blue just once in the room, perhaps near a particular corner – it might seem almost like an afterthought, but if you use blue near the book-case, near one wall, in the kid’s wall stickers, near the windows and in the kid’s mural – it will display a lovely color accent. Buy the best furniture you can afford – don’t scrimp on that – buy furniture for your kid that’ll last for some time at least. Do your research, learn about quality materials that can increase the life of furniture – this will make sure you make a good buy, in the long run.

Use different kinds of textures in the room – rough, smooth, shiny, etc. It’ll make the room more interesting. Downplay the unattractive parts and emphasize the attractive ones. Reinforce the theme constantly with appropriate murals, furniture and accessories. If you keep these basic points in mind, you are all set to give your child the best room he/she could hope for!

Art itself has such a universal appeal that, for many purposes, it doesn’t matter if it is original art or not. Throughout time, people have loved the way art moves and inspires them. There are so many types of art that there is always something for every taste. That continues to be true. Can you imagine a world without art? One can’t help but think that art is central to many aspects of our life. Indeed, it is. Without it, the world would be an uninviting and unattractive place. Having said that, does it matter if we surround ourselves with original or reproduced art? How one answers this question will determine whether or not one is content with the art around them. It is an answer each person gets to determine for themselves. Just because a piece is original does not necessarily make it “better”, in and of itself, though there is a strong pull toward such a notion.

There is a difference between original art and reproduced art, but to many people the differences are not something they even think about. It seems that as long as there is color on the wall, many people are content. However, to others, it makes a big difference. These people seek to define their surroundings with unique one-of-a-kind pieces. And that’s certainly understandable. There is a real appeal to having something that nobody else has.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of art that is mass produced and marketed purely for the sole purpose of making more profit per piece. This sort of art is most likely to show up in college dorm rooms, hotel rooms, and other public places. When a piece of art is reproduced, and cranked out for the masses, it just costs less than an original. Quick and cheap, but certainly not original.

So, what distinguishes original art from a reproduction? Original means that there is not another piece like it, it is the only one. It is special. And, it is only to be had in certain places. Purchasing original art can be a real test of your nerves. But if you do it right, you will know what you are buying and your purchase will increase in value over time. I recommend making connections with art gallery curators you trust. Galleries that specialize in original art pieces, and limited run editions can be a great resource for you if you are trying to make sure you avoid buying reproductions.

When it comes to paintings, it’s usually pretty simple to tell if it is an original or not. If you have questions, check with your trusted curator. With things like sculptures, learn to look for individual pieces that are marked with a number indicating where they fall in a series. These limited edition pieces are still considered original art. Any future castings will not likely have the personalization that often characterizes the first casting.

Whether you choose original art, or reproduced art, it is up to you to do your homework. Make sure you know what you are purchasing, enjoy what you decide on, and never regret your decision.
